15 min cities: are people able to live 15 min lifestyles?
Project description
The doctoral project of Yanjun Fang explores the similarities and differences between the potential of different cities in Finland to achieve the 15-minute city concept and the actual travel patterns of residents. By utilizing existing geographic information data (including POI, road networks, etc.) and travel data collected by PPGIS methods, the study will examine the role of the urban built environment in promoting 15-minute travel.
Building on this, the research aims to estimate the carbon emissions from travel in different Finnish cities through an analysis of residents’ travel behavior, and simulate the expected changes in carbon emissions under scenarios of increased active transportation and 15-minute city mobility.
The project will base its recommendations for urban planning on an analysis of the 15-minute city potential and travel patterns of cities such as Espoo, while also investigating the feasibility of these recommendations and the views of urban planning departments on them.
