Participatory Geographic Information System (PGIS) implementation in the socioenvironmental governance of the macrometropolitan area of São Paulo, Brazil

Project description

This project involves the application of PGIS for the socioenvironmental governance of the macrometropolitan region of São Paulo. The main objective is to promote and stimulate social participation, focusing on the reduction of levels of urban vulnerability and improvements in environmental sanitation and governance, by promoting new actions and strategies for integrated governance. This research proposes a participatory method to engage citizens in the process of urban planning with focus on governance and environmental sanitation of peripheral areas.

    he general objective of this project is to promote the support of the PGIS methodology to evaluate the governance and environmental sanitation of the macrometropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil increasing citizens’ social cohesion and participation towards a sustainable and participatory urban planning, through the application of participatory mapping approaches in specific vulnerable areas.
